The gas scrubbing plant at Tinfos Iron Works Inc. in Kvinesdal Norway has been working for about 2 years and continuously being optimized with respect to constantly lower emission standards set by the Norwegian Pollution Authorities.

Today the total emission of mercury from the scrubber is usually < 0.001 mg/Nm3, (= < 1 µg), as the emission of metallic mercury (Hg°) was also < 1 µg/Nm3, but due to various factors in such a huge smelter, the total emission of mercury is much higher, up to 10-30 µg/Nm3.

This unique result from the gas scrubber was achieved due to an improved droplet catching of the gas coming from the main scrubber unit.

The purified scrubbing water contains < 2 µg Hg/liter, as the filter cake contains some 5 % Hg.
